David Smith (that’s me) is a freelance travel writer specializing in creating excitement or telling the truth (and sometimes both). Previously, people have paid me to blog about Franklin, TN, write about national parks at National Park Trips, and expound on the joys of cheap dining around the country in Dave’s Cheap Eats. After taking a year hiatus-darn no outside employment clauses-I’m writing again!
This time I’m writing about destinations and journeys for family travellers that are easily accessible from the southeastern United States. Unlike many family travel writers who claim to be an expert on all family travel, I focus on the region I know best (South and Midatlantic, especially my new home of Nashville) and the unique perspective that comes from being a dad. I then use my knowledge and experience to craft informative and witty articles that engage the reader and cause them to want to travel.
If you’re wondering, I got my start in travel writing by keeping a journal on a three-week road trip from Richmond, Virginia, to Guyamas, Mexico, when I was 8 years old. It was almost 20 years later when people started paying me to write at Around the Tower in St. Louis, MO, which I turned into the Dave’s Cheap Eats blog.
